QinetiQ North America’s Unmanned Systems Group is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer in the fast paced, high tech field of robotics. The Principal ME will design, develop and field innovative products on a multi-disciplinary team of cutting edge engineers. The team member will also be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of a product lifecycle from concept generation to final product fielding.
Candidate will participate in the mechanical designs of military and commercial robotic products. Projects will be on robotic systems ranging from 10 pounds to 100,000 pounds. Candidate should be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC Creo preferable) and have an understanding of machine design and analysis, mechanism design, and electro mechanical systems. The candidate will perform as an engineering team lead or member on projects, create design packages, and assist in fielding and support of new products. The candidate shall also be “hands-on” with abilities support mechanical design and product issues related to various DoD pre-production and production programs. Looking for someone with strong mechanical / mechanism / electromechanical design and leadership experience.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Design -- Experience with Electro-mechanical system design with a concentrated focus in mechanisms and Machine Design and Analysis is required.
Clerical – Experience with a CAD PDM system a plus. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records.
Project Management – Strong project management and leadership skills required. Able to lead multidisciplinary teams, Create and assign tasks, supervise and mentor junior level engineers, plan and manage projects including tasks an budgets
Technical – Hands on experience assembling, testing and troubleshooting electromechanical systems in shop environment and field, strong CAD and detailing skills, development of design documentation packages, experience in sourcing vendors of electromechanical components, and ability to create and complete test plans
Leadership - Strong leadership skills: initiative, independence, motivation. Think creatively, promote innovation.
Computer Aided Design – Must have experience with relevant CAD packages. PTC Creo and Windchill highly desired.
Drafting – Must have experience with creation of detailed drawing and geometric tolerance (ASME Y14.5).
Communication- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with technical & proposal writing experience. Presentation skill and ability to lead customer interaction required. The ability to write product specifications & requirements is required.
Computer- Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Experience with vehicles such as: automotive, earthmoving equipment, or other heavy vehicles is desirable.
Experience designing and testing safety critical electro-mechanical systems to recognized standards is highly desirable.
